Race done. Medal earned.
Voice nearly gone. Worth every scream

A few days ago, I took a break from the office to recharge — but more importantly, to support my best friend who was competing in the Ironman African Championship in Gqeberha, South Africa. This was my husband’s third Ironman, and this time, he was chasing a qualification for the World Championships.

A little context: my husband loves exercise. Before triathlons, he was an avid cyclist, and his philosophy is simple — movement is non-negotiable. No matter how demanding his corporate job gets, he makes time for training.
Now, I’ve never been an exercise junkie. In fact, I’m a self-proclaimed couch potato. You’re far more likely to find me curled up in my reading nook with a cup of tea than outdoors in running shoes.

But that’s the thing about life and the people we choose to do it with — sometimes they’re wildly different from us. Despite being polar opposites, my husband and I have found a balance. We respect each other’s passions, and often make the effort to try new things together.

Back to Ironman, 30 March 2025:
I’ve never felt so inspired — or so proud — watching every single individual cross that finish line. Competing in an event like this takes sheer grit, commitment, and relentless determination.

Let me be clear: I’m not signing up for a triathlon! But I walked away from the experience completely motivated to face whatever challenge life throws my way. Witnessing my husband push through early morning training sessions, grueling bike rides, brick runs, and endless laps in the pool left me in awe. He gave it everything — and yes, he qualified for the World Championships. 🎉
I screamed my lungs out in support (nearly lost my voice!) and wore my “Ironwife” T-shirt with so much pride. ❤️

If there’s one lesson I took from this experience, it’s this:
Whatever your race is — professional, personal, or physical — never give up. Keep showing up, and keep moving forward.

TL;DR
You don’t have to be an athlete to be inspired by one — witnessing resilience can ignite your own. 💥
